Cleansing balms. I absolutely love them! They are travel-friendly, melt makeup off like nothing else and isn't that smooth texture, that magically turns into an oil, just the most satisfying thing ever?! I'm all here for them and this winter, you should be too as indoor heating and the outdoor cold tend to dry out our skin. As there are many cleansing balms to choose from these days, I totally get it if you're feeling a little overwhelmed right now. That's why I am giving you my top 5 cleansing balms which will hopefully give you a good idea. Happy reading! 😊

Antipodes Grapeseed Butter Cleanser - £24.99/75g, although currently on offer for £17.49

Active Ingredients: Cacao Butter, Olive Oil, Harekeke Oil, Vinanza Grape, Lavender, Blue Camomile, White Hibiscus, Almond Oil, Beeswax.

I'm going straight in with a certified organic and vegetarian cleansing butter by Antipodes. It contains Vinanza Grape from New Zealand to soothe the skin, Lavender and Blue Camomile to calm the skin, while White Hibiscus gently exfoliates. The cleansing butter doesn't look the most luxurious when you first see it, but I love that it comes with a little spatula that allows you to take out a small amount for each use rather than having to stick your finger in the jar. Not many cleansing balms have that. The cleansing butter has a lovely soft scent and feels very nice. It removes makeup easily and leaves my skin feeling nourished. One thing that I do have to mention, is that it is called a cleansing butter for a reason. It's quite heavy, and I feel like it leaves a residue that can be a bit heavy, depending on your skin type and what you prefer. Because of this I enjoy using it as a first cleanse in the evening followed by a second cleanse to get rid of the residue, but I wouldn't use it in the morning because it is just a bit too heavy for me for that.

This is one of the first cleansing balms I ever tried. It contains Safflower Seed Oil which breaks down excess oils and makeup. The balm is soothing and battles signs of stress and pollution for younger looking skin. What I love about this balm is how easily it transforms into an oil. Stubborn and even waterproof makeup are no problem at all, and the balm does not leave any residue after wiping my face with a damp cloth. Another big plus is that the balm is fragrance free and really doesn't smell of anything. The ingredients list only contains nine ingredients, so there really isn't much to it. A straightforward balm that does exactly what it needs to do.

Active Ingredients: Mimosa and Rose waxes, UK Starflower Oil, UK Elderberry Seed Oil, UK Optimega™ Oil, Coconut, Shea, Sweet Almond Oil, Padina Pavonica, Vitamin E.

When I think of Elemis, I think of the spa and with this cleansing balm this is no different. The scent is amazing and gives you that luxurious experience. The Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm comes in an original and rose version, with the latter being soothing and calming for sensitive and inflamed skin. The balm contains rose and mimosa wax combined with almond oil, and is very nourishing. I love how clean this balm makes my skin feel. Like other balms, it melts off makeup without any effort and my skin feels soft and glowing after wiping it with a cloth. What is also great, is that Elemis offer a 20g travel size of this balm which is £9.50 (useful in case you want to give it a try before splurging!). I managed to get my hands on a travel size of both the original and rose version for £5 each including shipping costs. They both included a cleansing cloth as well, so definitely worth keeping an eye on the Elemis website!

Active Ingredients: Collagen, Hyaluronic Acid, Shea Butter, Safflower Seed Oil

The IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Makeup balm is described as a cleanser, makeup remover and serum in one and I kind of get why. It effortlessly removes waterproof makeup and it is super gentle on the skin, even in the eye area. The balm is not drying at all and I love how quickly it melts into an oil and removes all the grime. My skin instantly feels hydrated and smooth. This is definitely one of my go-to cleansing balms in the evening. There is one thing though that I am not a big fan of, and that's the looong list of ingredients. It's massive! And I am not sure why to be honest. I notice that it contains silicones which is not everyone's cup of tea. They are normally not mine either, but I have to say that it has not bothered me at all. However if you are thinking about trying this cleanser, it is worth checking out the list in case there are any ingredients you are allergic to, or are unable to use.

Active Ingredients: Grapeseed Oil, Bitter Orange Oil, Sweet Almond Oil and Marula Oil

I have to admit, before trying this cleansing balm, I had not heard of Vitage before. They are a UK  skincare company and create products that are fuelled by antioxidants and botanical ingredients. The Essential Cleansing Balm contains Rose and Neroli among other natural ingredients listed above, and is super nourishing. It has a lovely fresh scent and the balm turns into a lovely milky emulsion when mixed with water. I love that, because it allows you to use the balm as a milky toner as well. The cleansing balm removes makeup well, but one thing I do notice is that the balm is slightly more grainy than others before turning into an oil. This gives it a bit of an exfoliating effect which is actually quite nice. There is no dry or tight feeling after wiping away the balm and my skin feels clean and soft. I really like the ingredients of this balm and the fact that it comes with a high quality two-sided cloth that has a muslin and microfibre side.

So there you have it. Five cleansing balms I enjoy using for different reasons. I hope it has given you an idea of what types of cleansing balms are out there.

As always, thank you so much for reading and if you have any feedback, feel free to drop me a comment below.
