Imagine this: It's Saturday and you have the biggest plans for a good night out so you need to look your very best. Your makeup is one of those things that simply has to be on point, am I right? But what if you're not that confident in applying it yourself? Do you ask a friend to do it for you? These days there is another option, get it done at one of your favourite makeup counters at big department stores such as Debenhams. They often charge for the makeover, but with the amount paid being redeemable against any products, its a win-win! Now, I can totally get it if you're a bit sceptical, paying for a service when you don't know whether they'll deliver what you want. Well, that's why I'm here to review it for you! I was invited to a makeup application session by Benefit Cosmetics, at their counter in Debenhams Coventry. Read on to find out how that went.

I was met by the lovely Benefit Debenhams Coventry ladies Jasmin and Sophie, and sat down with Sophie for my consultation. As I was silly enough to come in with a full face of makeup, we started with a cleanse and moisturiser using the Triple Performing Facial Emulsion (£27). Although Benefit is primarily a makeup brand, they have got a basic skincare range which I was pleasantly surprised by. Not only is this moisturiser super lightweight, it's oil-free, hydrating and contains SPF 15.

To prime my skin for makeup, Sophie used the POREfessional Pearl Primer (£28), an illuminating face primer that reduces the look of pores. This primer does contain silicones which I am normally not a fan of, but this primer is a game changer! It's so light and even with the warmer weather that weekend, I did not feel this primer move at all. The fact that this primer has a soft, pearlescent glow is perfect if you prefer wearing a matte foundation without the dull finish.

For the foundation we used the Hello Happy Soft Blur foundation in shade 3 - light neutral (£26). This foundation offers sheer to medium coverage and SPF 15, is lightweight, breathable and blurring, and claims to offer natural looking coverage. Let me tell you it really delivers. This is probably the product I was most impressed by. Sophie applied the foundation with a flat brush and the result was a gorgeous flawless finish with just the perfect amount of coverage for me. If you're looking for a foundation without the feel of wearing one, this one is for you!

To conceal my dark circles, Sophie used the Boi-ing Hydrating Concealer in shade 2 (£18.50). The concealer hides and smoothes dark circles at the same time, offering sheer coverage, contains vitamin E and the area stays hydrated up to 6 hours! I usually find stick concealers quite greasy and hard to work with, but this one feels so soft and light. I love that it's a concealer and hydrating balm in one. It doesn't sit in creases and looks flawless.

Next up a bit of bronzer, and how can you go wrong with cult favourite Hoola (£26)?! Soft, blendable, matte yet natural looking and now available in four shades: Hoola Lite, Hoola, Hoola Caramel and Hoola Toasted! Most bronzers are too warm for me, but Sophie applied Hoola in way that made it look very subtle. I really love the finish and the fact that it does not contain any glitter.

To add a bit of colour, Sophie suggested going for the Rockateur blusher (£26). This blusher looks quite dark in the packaging, but is actually a lovely shade that is not too pink. It has a super soft texture, is blendable and buildable. Sophie applied it with a blush brush on the apples of my cheeks.

We then went in with a bit of highlighter for which we used the shade Tickle, which is part of the Cheekleaders Mini Pink Squad palette (£26). Tickle has a pink/golden finish, is super silky and very blendable. The finish is just the perfect glow.

For my brows Sophie used two items I already use: Precisely, My Brow Pencil (£21.50) and Gimme Brow Eyebrow Gel (£21.50), both in shade 2. The pencil worked great to map out and line the shape of my brows, whereas the brow gel worked well to fill in my brows. The brow gel is also amazing on its own. I love the natural look it gives my brows and it's so easy and quick too.

For my eyes, I decided to opt for a simple, natural look and nothing too bold. On my eyelid, Sophie applied the shade 'Gold Rush' which is actually a blusher. You can either find it on its own, or as part of the Cheekleaders Mini Bronze Squad palette (both £26). I really love the soft pink-gold finish and it was just perfect for what I was looking for.

On my lips, Sophie used the They're Real! Double The Lip in Nude Scandal (£17) which is the perfect nude. I love that this is a lip liner and lipstick in one. It has a teardrop tip that makes it easy to apply and has a semi-matte finish.

Finishing off with the Roller Liner Liquid Eyeliner (£18.50) and a bit of BADgal Bang! Volumising Mascara (£22.50) and the job is done! What do you think?

Final Thoughts

I had a great time getting my makeup done by Sophie at Benefit - Debenhams Coventry. She clearly knew her stuff, walked me through all the options and knew exactly what to recommend based on my wishes. My makeup couldn't have looked more flawless and I have to say I was so impressed with the products! I would definitely recommend their makeup application service. The cost of the full makeup application is £40, however this is completely redeemable against any products you then wish to purchase.

  1. She did a really lovely, and quite natural make up look. Not too over the top or anything. If you can redeem the £40 off their products if you purchase, then you've got nothing to lose really. :D

I was pleased with my makeover and surprised how much benefit make up has grew and products as people often think there just eyebrow make up. I really enjoyed your post keep up the good work xxx

  3. I didn’t realise they did makeovers- it a good way of trying out a whole range of different products as it would be an expensive mistake if you didn’t like some of them!
