Stila SS19: Optimal Illusion - Review and Swatches

Stila_Optimal_Illusion_Collection

Stila have done it again! They have released the new SS19 collection and let me tell you, she's a stunner. This spring/summer nothing is what it seems with Stila's new Optimal Illusion collection. With a new primer, skin perfector, powder, highlighting palette, face gloss, eyeshadow palette and a number of eyeshadows and lippies to choose from, there is bound to be something in it for everyone. Let me talk you through some of the gorgeous new releases.

The main focus of the new collection is the skin with the Lingerie Soufflé Skin Perfecting Primer (£28), the Lingerie Soufflé Skin Perfecting Color (£30) and the In The Buff Powder Spray (£24). The primer smooths and blurs any imperfections, and comes in two shades: Sheer Illumination which adds that gorgeous glow all over, and Sun-kissed which acts as a bronzer to add warmth. What's so innovative about these is their whipped texture. The primers are super lightweight and have a gel formula which makes them cooling and perfect for the warmer summer months.

The Lingerie Soufflé Skin Perfecting Color is exactly what the name suggests: skin perfecting. It comes in 8 shades and I can feel your initial disappointment but fear not because each shade is suitable for four different skin tones. What we have to bear in mind with this product, is that it is not a foundation but more like a tinted moisturiser albeit slightly different. The Lingerie Soufflé Skin Perfecting Color has a super light mousse texture, is infused with botanicals and contains over 70% water and coconut water. It contains micas that even the skin tone and offers light to medium coverage. I absolutely love the texture of the skin perfector and the fact that it gives us that 'no makeup makeup' look. Definitely a product I have on my wishlist right now!

Another super interesting one is the In The Buff Powder Spray. I mean come on, a powder SPRAY?! Yes and it is amazing. It's a loose setting powder that is super fine and blurs all the imperfections we want to get rid of whilst setting makeup. It absorbs oils to mattify the skin but without making it look dry. I love how silky this powder feels and I love the idea of the spray. The In The Buff Powder Spray is available in three different shades: light/medium, medium/dark and illuminating which is translucent. One tip though: make sure you spray the powder on a brush. It is not meant to be sprayed directly onto the face.

The last face item I want to talk about is the new Shade Mystère Face Gloss (£24). A lightweight balm that contains bronze, russet and pink colours and adds a gorgeous shine to the skin. It's the perfect glossy glow for that popular dewy finish. The best way to apply this is with the fingers on the highest points of the face. I can see this becoming a summer favourite for many!

Moving onto the eyes, Stila have released an alternative to the Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadows, the Shade Mystère Liquid Eye Shadows (£24). What makes these different? The fact that nothing is what it seems. These shadows look marbleized when you see them, but once applied they turn into a gorgeous colour-flipping shade. They are super pigmented and sparkly but without the fallout most glitters have. Below a swatch of the shade 'Spiritual' which is yellow with gold and red flip pearl. I find the idea of these so exciting and can't wait to get my hands on some of the other shades!

Next to all of the newness, Stila have also expanded some of their existing ranges, for instance by adding four gorgeous new shades to the Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow (£24) collection. I think Plum On, Tulip Twinkle, Rockin' Rose and Dollish are perfect additions to the existing shade range and are great for the summer season. Below a swatch of Tulip Twinkle. One thing to note, when swatching these, I did find that they do stain, so bear that in mind when wearing them on the eyelid.

Finally two limited edition sets: the All Fired Up Glitter & Glow set (£29) containing three limited edition Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadows in Sunset Fire, Follow The Sun and Burnished Sienna, and the My Bare Lady Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick set (£22) containing three beautiful nudes in Patina, Illuminaire Shimmer and Nudo Shimmer. The eyeshadow set was inspired by fire opal and I think these hot shades are perfect for the summer season. They are travel size, so perfect if you are new to the Glitter & Glow formula. The Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick set contains your perfect nudes and this is one that really excites me. I am definitely a nude lippie kind of person and the formula is just gorgeous. It really does stay all day!

So overall another big hit for the season of you ask me. It amazes me how Stila keep coming up with such innovative ideas and always seem to hit the nail on the head when it comes to new beauty trends. Now, I can keep going on about how much I love Stila as a brand and this post does not even cover the entire collection! But if you really want to know more, do pay a visit to a Stila counter because I think you might find something you love!

Have you tried any of the new Optimal Illusion range or have you got your eye on any of these? I would love to hear all about it!
